Innovation and Investment- LJ4

I found this week’s readings to be particularly interesting. This section of the textbook outlined the details of emerging social media, including risks and requirements. “There also are critical economic and social perspectives that connect technological innovation to broad trends of a global workforce, use of social media to stay connected, and young professionalism…" (Lipschultz, n.d.) I was particularly interested in this section of the readings because the use of social media in the professional world is something that has its own unique qualities. Many people that utilize the internet as well as social media are required to per their occupation. From creating professional resumes, to creating online employee profiles in a company’s database, there are many uses of technology and the internet when it comes to businesses. However, companies also use the internet to monitor their employee’s activity on social media. Having inappropriate content posted to your social media can be detrimental for your professional career. There are many different types of data that are stored online, including personal data, which is at risk for being breached. “"Social media industries have developed business models focused on marketing, content, news, and uses in a way that places less value on personal data privacy. " (Lipschultz, n.d.) Both of these details considered, I find it interesting that businesses nearly require their employees to utilize the internet in some way, shape, or form regardless of the risks.

One social media trend that I think will stand the test of time is content creation/ short-form videos. Within recent years, content that is in the form of a short-form video has become increasingly popular. With apps like Vine, and more recently, TikTok, videos that are only a few seconds long gain a lot of popularity. I think this will stick around because it eliminates the need for the audience to maintain any sort of attention span. This is making it harder for people to sit through videos that are several minutes long, such as ones that can be found on Youtube.

I have adopted some social media trends such as soft-life and minimalism. Right now there is a big trend of removing unnecessary objects and stress in your life going through social media. Overall I believe these trends are positive and beneficial to those that choose to adopt them.

I have not used any of the new AI that has recently come out. This is because I don't necessarily find a particular interest in it. But like all technology, things go in and out of popularity.
